Manufacturing Day Eve!

By Daniel Douglas, Posted October 5, 2017

'Twas the night before Manufacturing Day, when all through the factory,

Not a machine was stirring, not even a Haas'

It’s almost Manufacturing Day! Tomorrow is the annual event where North American manufacturers invite the community to learn about the possibilities of modern manufacturing and explore the many career opportunities.

It’s almost Manufacturing Day!

If you’re like me, then you only recently became aware of Manufacturing Day (also known as MFG Day). MFG day is officially celebrated on the first Friday in October. Usually a manufacturer organizes an event to share what they do with their community.

Where are these manufacturing parties happening? Easy question! Manufacturing Day events occur at manufacturing facilities and educational institutions across North America. Events in can be found on the Manufacturing Day website’s “Find an Event” page: www.mfgday.com/events. This events list is updated daily and can be searched by country, state/province, and city.

But, wait! All of you who don’t cut, weld, lathe, mill, or assemble for a living may be wondering, “Why do we need an official MFG Day?” Good question! Modern manufacturing environments are commonly thought of as dark, dangerous factories designed for low-skilled workers. Manufacturing Day addresses this misperception by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing really is today:

  1. Manufacturing is technologically advanced, with ample use of automation, 3-D printing, robots, and screen technology.
  2. The annual average salary of manufacturing workers is more than $77,000.
  3. Manufacturers have the highest job tenure in the private sector.
  4. 90 percent of manufacturing workers have medical benefits.

Does that sound interesting to you? Manufacturing Day events are meant for anyone who is curious about modern manufacturing and who would like to know more about what happens in modern-day manufacturing facilities.
