It was a busy Manufacturing Day here at D3! We had several groups of schools from Southwest Missouri swing by our office here in Springfield, MO for some hands-on experience with Fusion 360. Around 30 students came through D3 in several groups. All these students had a chance to use Fusion 360 hands-on and learn a little bit more about design and manufacturing and what goes into it.
Area High School students came by with the GO CAPS program. There were students with interests ranging from Mechanical Engineering to Electrical Engineering and even Civil Engineering. Many of these students have used Inventor in their schools for several years. When they first dove into Fusion 360, there was a little bit of “change shock” according to the instructor, seeing how things are done in a slightly different way or with a different UI. However, the next-gen features of Fusion 360 that make me love it so much really made an impression on them: collaboration, cloud-connected designs, Single login to access on multiple devices, Great product design capabilities.
Many students already downloaded Fusion 360 and are looking forward to spending more time with it.
There were even several students heavily involved with music and arts programs that came with the groups! Fusion 360 definitely has tools to offer for the Industrial Designers of the future in our group. In fact, we’ve heard that many of the students already downloaded Fusion 360 over the weekend and are looking forward to spending more time with it!

We also had part 2 of the Expedition program with area middle schoolers. Last month they visited to get some hands-on design experience. This time we got to work with an assembly that had moving parts and joints to animate. We also took a look at Fusion 360’s Animation environment where we started building some assembly instructions for the reciprocating saw shown above. The students all had a good time, and I won't mention any names, but some of the teachers may have enjoyed it even more! That's right, you know who you are..
