Fusion 360 - December 2017 Update

AnyCAD, in Fusion 360!!!  This is the most exciting update I'm going to talk about today, and it wasn't even part of the December 5th update to Fusion 360.  AnyCAD was released to Fusion Team Users a few weeks earlier.  I learned all about it at Autodesk University, and I'll tell you a few highlights below.  Besides AnyCAD, if you've been using Fusion 360 recently you may have noticed a few other goodies with the last couple of updates.  Queue the highlights! AnyCAD workflow are now available with Inventor and SOLIDWORKS files.  What is AnyCAD, you as…

Fusion EXPLORE: Drone Chassis - Part 2

Welcome back everybody! Let’s EXPLORE Autodesk Fusion 360!  This post is part of an ongoing series, so if you want to start at the beginning, then click here. After designing and prototyping the motor mounts, I had to figure out what to do with the control board and battery. In order to achieve a lightweight and minimalist design, I decided to simply mount the control board directly to the airframe and build a sort of crash cage around it. Since all of the quadcopter electronics are soldered together (and I didn’t want to tear everything apart and sold…

Fusion EXPLORE: Drone Chassis - Part 1

Hey everybody! Let’s EXPLORE Autodesk Fusion 360! If you’re anything like me, then you always have to try out gadgets. Especially gadgets that fly. As I work my way towards a higher level of quadcopter piloting, I leave a trail of crashed and burnt-out drones (hey, they are called “hobby grade” drones for a reason). Since I have an abundance of damaged drones, I decided to use one for this week’s Fusion Explore blog. My goal was to design and print a replacement chassis, making it small and light enough for the tired motors to handle. Seemed easy and s…

It's No SOLIDWORKS, That's For Sure!

It's no SOLIDWORKS, that's for sure!  I can't even export an STL from it.  The only file it will create is an f3d. As the words floated through the air and struck my eardrums, I dropped everything.  That was, in fact, false.  I regularly use Fusion 360 to generate STL files for my 3D Printer at home, and the process is so easy it almost completes itself. If you feel like I'm continuing a story you didn't hear the beginning to, you might be.  Check out my previous blog post, then you can come back and read this one.  Just before this all started, I ha…

Fusion 360 Workshops at Oregon's Universities

I don't know if I've ever been surrounded by so many SOLIDWORKS users at once in my life.  OK, that's not technically true - I've been on demos for entire companies running SOLIDWORKS - but this was a little different.  Several students weren't even there for the Fusion 360 Workshop, but just happened to be in the lab as I was setting up to start.  Good, more students to see what I was about to show!  I guess holding it in a computer lab instead of a closed classroom wasn't so bad of an idea after all.. In case you're wondering what story I dropped you…
